I got $10 out of this ATM that said it only gives $1 bills. One of the bills it gave me was a $2 bill.

    1. Don’t spend it on the lottery cause you just used all your luck for the next 20 years

If the bank figures it out they can charge your account for the extra dollar.  “Bank error in your favor” is only truly a thing in Monopoly.

For much larger amounts you could end up in real trouble for making off with a bunch of cash if the bank later determines they weren’t supposed to give it to you – they can basically demand you return it.  I doubt they’ll bother that much over a single dollar though.

    3. Used to be bank ATM custodian. Their ATM likely doesn’t have denomination censors, just cassettes that are loaded with bills that are supposed to be the same bills. I’ve never seen an ATM or TCR system that counts and stores $2s, largely because they’re so infrequent that there’s no point in designing sensors to store them. Whoever loads their cassettes probably had a miscount somewhere and the two just got jammed in a strap of $1s. Which means someone somewhere had to sign off on a $1 difference on their count.
